A few weeks ago I went by McDonalds for an afternoon pick-me-up. I decided on an Iced Latte. It got me thinking about making my own iced coffee. So, yesterday I was on the hunt to find the perfect iced coffee recipe. After asking friends on facebook and searching the web, I put together a recipe. It turned out great! The iced coffee tastes like it came from Starbucks! I would strongly encourage you to try this!
A friend from high school, Courtney, said that I should try using cold press coffee in the iced coffee instead of brewed coffee. I went to these websites, http://smittenkitchen.com/2008/08/cold-brewed-iced-coffee/ and http://www.ineedcoffee.com/06/cold-brewed/, to gather information on cold press coffee. I had never heard of it before and I was curious about this new way of making coffee.
After researching, I made my own with 1 part coffee and 4 parts water in a mason jar this morning. It sat at room tempature for about 4 hours. I then strained the coffee in a 2 quart pitcher and added milk. I didn't measure, but I would guess that it was 1 part coffee to 2 parts whole milk. I then added about a tsp of vanilla, 1/3 cup of sugar, and about 1/4 cup chocolate milk (I had a 1/2 gallon in my fridge!). I mixed everything together and served it over ice. I put the remaining coffee in the fridge for later.
This is the most delightful drink I've had in a long time! I think it even beats McDonald's and Starbucks! :) I encourage you to try this! You can make up a batch or two and store in your fridge. I get very sleepy in the afternoons (yes, I still need my afternoon naps!) and I know that this will be a yummy treat I will drink often, to help me get through the day!
