Turkey Stock

Have you ever made your own stock?  We really enjoy making our own.  The best part about it is that it is so easy to make!  We use the carcase of the turkey and place it in a stock pot.  At this point, you can add any vegetables into the pot that you would like.  We have added onions, celery, carrots, fresh herbs, and garlic.  After adding in all the veggies, we fill the pot up with water, usually a few inches above the carcass.  Let the pot of water cook on low for 4-6 hours.  Once it has cooked (the water will have changed colors), strain the broth.  Place the broth back into the pot and put the pot in the refrigerator overnight.  In the morning, strain off the remaining debris that floated to the top.  Once the broth is clean, you can do as you wish with the broth!  We usually freeze 1 to 2 cups at a time and then we use the broth in our soups, mashed potatoes, etc.  Making your own stock can save you lots of money!

One pot can make 12+ cups of broth!
